About Susan Berry, Owner of Handbell Services

Susan Berry, Detroit, Michigan, is an international authority on proper ringing.

  • In 2000, after ten years of research, study, and writing, Susan self-published and offered Healthy Ringing to the handbell community, a comprehensive publication combining handbells and health. This publication single-handedly changed the way handbell musicians have approached their instrument.
  • In the 1980s, Susan co-authored the Learning to Ring curriculum. Additionally, Susan co-authored the popular instructional video, Bell Basics, widely used for decades after its production.
  • Susan has had a very diversified music career.  Over the years Susan was a featured director or teacher at many national and international handbell events.  She was founder and artistic director of three community handbell ensembles in Southeastern Michigan, was a church musician for 25 years, taught at a local college, and for 35 years was a Michigan sales representative for Malmark, Inc., Plumsteadville, PA.
  • Susan’s passion for business plus her teaching and artistic background are all reflected in the many products and services offered by her company.
